I am moving my mom to a brand new memory care assisted living facility and they have a standard license. They dont have ECC or LNS license which are more advanced Licenses. She will have to move if she cant stand or pivot and they dont have a license for pureed food. They said that hospice can come in and help and keep her at this facility. It is called Allegro in Winter Park. It is a beautiful and very professional place and not cheap at $6k/month.
Thanks Charlotte. They are expensive. I am trying to find out if they are all licensed the same.
If you have placed your loved one in a facility/home, what was the turning point or critical juncture that made the decision for you?
A turning point, for me, was after he’d injured his leg, pretty badly, overnight, and I’d completely slept through it. But a big factor, too, was tendency to get agitated enough, on an occasion or… read more
My husband just got up for the day. It is 4:30pm. He had been in bed since 9:30 pm last night. What can I or should I do to change this?
I have been able to keep my wife to a schedule. I get her up between 7am and 8am depending on what we have to do that day. She wants to sleep late but I insist she get up. She will nap on the couch… read more
The Dr has sent a letter to DMV stating that she is not mentally or physically able to drive, & she just got a letter stating her license will be suspended at the end of the month. My mom hasn't had any issues driving, never forgets where she is parked or going, she lives alone & is capable of taking care of herself. My question, has anyone had this experience & how do you tell them that can't drive any longer?
MY husbands neurologist wrote to DMV and they sent the letter. However he still blamed me. He said that I told the Dr to do it. Needless to say Hubby never would go back to that DR.
When she was first diagnosed with Alzheimer's she was already getting lost. The doctor did say that she should not be driving anymore and restricted her. She made my life hell and cried how she couldn't even go to the cemetery anymore to visit my dad's grave. I spoke with the doctor and he allowed her to drive there and in town. Fast forward four years.....She hasn't gotten lost lately (she really hasn't been driving too much lately, I have a tracker on her phone so I know when she leaves and I… read more
Thank you both Richard10 and Missy70. I do the majority of driving so I think he really knows but doesn't want to admit it and every so often is insistent on driving himself. I go with him but it's… read more
He is very paranoid and can get very combative. He is still living in a condo with my mom who has her own issues. Neither can take care of the other. My mom is all for moving into assisted living.
I have bouts of feeling like I am failing him too. Thats when I have "a little talk with Jesus" and that helps me tremendously. Pick yourself up when you have this feeling. Im sure your doing great.
It is also important to consider the caregivers safety. If the patient becomes aggressive or you feel unsafe you must consider this option. One group friend is 5’ and spouse patient 6’. She could no… read more
