That's a good answer, @A myALZteam Member. If someone cannot walk and cannot transfer independently from bed to wheelchair, that's also a point where facility care may be required.
It is also important to consider the caregivers safety. If the patient becomes aggressive or you feel unsafe you must consider this option. One group friend is 5’ and spouse patient 6’. She could no longer care for him because of the height differences. Also, in my case, I have depression and anxiety. If or when he goes to more advanced stages I may not be able to have the strength to handle him all of the time he will need. I am already dreading having to do it. I am hoping by that time he won’t be aware. Lastly, mine has many other painful non life threatening aches and pains. Caring for all of that may make it necessary also. I guess what my opinion is…..you will know!
Difficult to give an answer that satisfies everyone! MY hope is that my wife will put me in a facility when I lose control of bowel and/or bladder! We bought LTC insurance 20+ yrs ago. I am 81+, with Early Stage Alz.
