Alzheimers And The Telephone.
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

I know that it helps Alz patients to be in contact with the world, but what should I do about excessive calls. My husband (about mid-stage alz) makes calls to people every day. These are people he worked with, people he met at hockey games, people he thinks he knows -you get the idea....anyway, today - Sunday - at about 8:00 am, he called a neighbor that we haven't seen since he moved about 15 years ago. I'm sure he was surprised. I don't want to cause problems here by chastising him, but… read more

Retirement Homes- How Have People Broached The Subject With Their Loved Ones?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

My dads only 66. We moved out on advice from his specialist (and we were really struggling) to see if he can cope by himself. The reality is that he isn't- he's just surviving...barely. My sibling and I have made the very hard decision dad needs to go into a unit in low care so he can still have his independence and come and go as he please but he won't have to worry about anything but himself. We were told the reality will be he will be dragged kicking and screaming to it, which breaks my… read more

Mother With Dementia Thinks She Has To Have A Boyfriend - She Found One Now A I Am Not Sure Where To Go With This
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

My mom started a physical/romantic relationship with another person in the facility she is living in. She thinks they have know each other for years when it has only been a few weeks. I would not worry as much if she made sound decisions but her dementia is at a state where she does not. And she does not care what we say. The man also has issues from a stroke. He has memory issues as well just not a much as mom. I think he is a bit domineering. Not sure what to do

Mom Has Begun Crying Almost Every Few Minutes Throughout The Day.
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

The minute she is still, she starts crying, sometimes sobbing. At almost 81, she's not that active, providing ample opportunity to start crying every few minutes. What can be done?! I can't do the minimum chores without having to stop and try to get her to stop crying.

Anyone Experienced Their Loved One Being Evicted From Memory Dare?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

A couple of days ago, I was given a 45 day eviction notice for my husband from the director of his memory care residence. She told me he should be in a skilled nursing facility, where they can keep him sedated. She told me that, even if another memory care decides to accept him, I’ll likely end up getting an eviction notice for him from them, too. But the nursing homes, I’ve contacted, seem to respond as if I’ve got my head up my butt. And they tell me they’re not equipped to handle dementia.
