I decided to just take pictures of the food. What I will do with it, I'm not sure.
Hi Steve. Again with SNF very hard to serve food a majority of people can/will eat. If your wife likes salads I would make a request to have that added to her diet maybe a few times a week. Either through care meeting, dietician or MD. She's getting food that fits with the "Diet" the MD has ordered. Big fear of people choking so a lot of things that need much chewing are eliminated. But if your wife is good with that type of food you can request her MD make a specific list of foods to add. She may need a formal swallowing evaluation, again ordered by MD. Everything needs to go through the MD usually. Hope I'm not sounding bossy...being a Nurse Practitioner and having the experience with my Mom in SNF after her strokes has given me some experience. I can appreciate and feel your concern and feelings of wanting the best for your wife everyday you entrust her care to others. So hard. Sending support. Take care.
I agree with @A myALZteam Member. They are required to serve meals the contain the required calories and nutrients needed. There is nothing that requires them to serve any certain food to serve. Since many elderly don’t eat a lot, they may not serve lettuce in favor of a more nutrient dense food. Again repeating what Kerry said. You need to request your wishes through the care meeting, the dietitian or MD.
Im not functioning well enough for a “care meeting”, but I do write to them often. I know from raising children you have to “present” foods dozens of time and the of course gobble it up yourself…
Thank you Steve for your updates. I think keeping those pictures is not a bad idea, but you need to speak to someone in the institute about your request for salads. Perhaps, if they bring up objections of fear for choking, then ask them to serve them only when you are there. Again, just suggestions,
Just suggestions. You're doing you best.
