What is the difference between vascular dementia and Alzheimer's?
Here's a link to the Cleveland Clinic's explanation of Vascular Dementia:

My mother has Dementia and my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's last summer. Is there a way to find out if I have early stage Dementia/Alzheimer's?
My husband also 2014 but he lived till Dec 27,2023 at age 87 he also was on Aricept
Serves no purpose to tell them.
It is simply another hurt in the this journey of the lost.
No Ma'am.
When my husband is out of sorts, I think okay, this really is happening. But sometimes (a lot here lately), I wonder could this all be a mistake? Could something else have been going on 6months ago and now it’s over? My husband has been on Aricept for about 5 or 6 months and since July 2nd on the highest dosage. Does he really need it anymore? I am so confused and I don’t want him labeled with something he doesn’t have! Has anyone else ever went through this doubt or know of a misdiagnosis being… read more
I never questioned his condition, I spent the first part of his tests with the psychologist and psychiatrist one of the questions he was asked was how many children do you have? He said two, he has… read more
I am trying to figure out how to help my mother-in-law who has been with us 2 months.
I need an official diagnosis but would like more details on caregiving and what level she's at, and whether certain meds are affecting her paranoia. Need advice on psychiatric meds, etc. So do I go to appointments using HER insurance? Or go to my own psychiatrist and ask questions about her? (I don't actually have one) How do you manage these things?
And I'm afraid to say to her "you have Alzheimers so I need… read more

Hi, can someone help me understand the aggression associated with Alzheimer's? Dad and I are noticing that my Mum (83 and probably at the moderately severe stage) has become more feisty lately. Everything we try to help her with or suggest she do meets with an immediate annoyed retort. It's almost as if she became more cognitively aware or better! And it seems more like she is still trying to hang on to the last vestiges of her independence, dignity and pride than it seems to be an unconscious… read more

Incredibly hard to see him like this , a completely different person that raised me . A man who never raised a hand towards me. So very angry and has put his hands on me one time hurt me pretty bad.
Remember that he is likely aggravated by his memory loss, inability to do things that he used to, loosing things, decreased independence, etc. He’s not angry at you, he is angry at his situation and… read more
This isn't a question, but today I'm reading about Caregiver Stress, and the Q&A Section seems like the best place to share information.

When my husband developed afib near the end of his life, it took him quickly. I do remember one night when he kept getting out of bed. Every time he got out of bed, the motion sensor I had set for him… read more
