If I mention that he must attend a function with me as he shouldn't be home alone, he says "I'm not a child. I can care for myself." There are no family members that can stay with him while I am away during the week.

Hi Lori, This also is my dilemma. I am presently trying to introduce a person who can do personal care other than me. Mike was against it. "I don't need anyone." he says. Experience is the best teacher. I told him OK go ahead take off your clothes, take a shower, put on your PJ's, brush your teeth. I went downstairs. When he couldn't take off his clothes he called. Second night same thing. Eventually he agreed he does need help. We interviewed a few candidates and started this past Monday. My plan is once/week. I'm hoping this will give me some options . Also, a while ago I started with a companion through a care agency Seniors Helping Seniors. After a few trials this went well with the right person. The companion went out to lunch with Mike and for a time went to the gym with him. Lots of trial and error. Good luck to you.
