@A myALZteam Member: Very often, when there seems to be a sudden change in a patient, what they have is a Urinary Tract Infection. You can get a package of test strips at the pharmacy and test her urine at home, or take her to an Urgent Care center, or to your primary care doctor.

I think it's easiest to remember it this way:
● Essentially, EVERY case of Alzheimer’s is Dementia
● But NOT every case of Dementia is Alzheimer’s.
60 to 80% of all Dementia cases are Alzheimer's, so 20 to 40% are NOT.
Alzheimer's is a specific brain DISEASE which CAUSES Dementia to occur, by causing progressive cell damage (neurodegeneration).
Therefore: If they gave your wife a Dementia diagnosis and did NOT say Alzheimer's, then she's got one of the OTHER types of Dementia:
● Vascular Dementia (causes about 15% of cases; and it's the only non-neurodegenerative form of Dementia)
● Lewy Body Dementia
● Frontotemporal Dementia
● Mixed Dementia
● Limbic-Predominant Age-Related TDP-43 Encephalopathy (known as "LATE")

There is a subset of Alzheimer’s called Rapid Progression Alzheimer’s (rpAD) but it’s not common.

Not eating is generally a very late-Stage behavior. Do you know what Stage your wife is at? If she has stopped eating, but is not in a very late Stage, then you might want to consider a trip to the E.R.
