Every few days someone asks what Stage their loved one is at.
Here are two charts:

(2) FAST Scale with Activities of Daily Living. <-- See the first comment

Members expressed deep gratitude for clear staging charts that help them understand where their loved ones are in the Alzheimer's journey, with many identifying their spouses as falling between stages 3 and 6 and acknowledging the emotional weight of tracking decline. Several members shared practical wisdom about staging, noting that loved ones are placed at the stage where they spend most of their time even if symptoms from other stages occasionally appear, and that progression is rarely linear, with some experiencing rapid changes over just six months while others remain stable for years. A recurring theme was the profound challenge of day-to-day unpredictability, from wild swings in sleep patterns and mood to the exhausting work of letting go of control, balanced by the small grace of focusing on good moments and leaning on community support to face what lies ahead.

@A myALZteam Member. It is a bit confusing. You stage them where they are most of the time. I have found that the Alzheimer’s monster gives you a quick preview of what is to come. They may fit all the things of stage 4 and something from 5 or 6. They would still be stage 4. Right now my husband is firmly in stage 6 but I see things from stage 7 slipping in now and then, but he does not yet fit everything of stage 7 yet. I hope that makes some sense.

Sending support Nan-Can. It is often a real puzzle to know how are LO will be on a given day. Frustrating and exhausting for us and confusing and overwhelming for them. I just try to remember those good points in any day to balance out the tough ones. Take care.

He is in Stage 4 as I am doing more and more things that use to be easy for him. He takes anti-depressants which help some. May need to see if another may be better. Thanks for the information. You and Otto have a mission to help!
