Not only has mom become attached to our dog, our dog has become extremely attached to her. Our dog wants to know where she is at all times. If mom decides to walk out in the yard for a while, our dog waits by the door looking outside trying to find her. If mom is in her chair, our dog is right by her side. Yes. During my mother’s battle with cancer my daughters’ dog would always be next to my Mom. Patches was also alert to any signs of distress my Mom would make. I believe dogs are empaths. We used call Patches our “ partially trained therapy dog”.

Yes. Dads dog became even more close to him throughout his journey. They know. Watch the dog because they will give you signs when something is wrong.
Dads dog knew when he wasnt feeling good.

This is very true!! My daughter’s sheltie knows when my daughter is ill. Her sheltie would put her forehead against my moms forhead when my mom was alive. Recently, one of our other shelties has shown that same interest in my father. Dogs just seem to know instinctively when something is wrong. 🙂
