He was diagnosed in 2019. Up until a couple months ago, he would brush his teeth and take a shower without any problem. Now, he refuses to do either. I have to wash him by hand and wash his hair and get clean clothes on him. It’s a struggle to even change his depends sometimes. He can’t communicate well so it’s hard to know what he is trying to say or how he feels. It breaks my heart. We’ve been married almost 59 years. We take it day by day, the good days and the bad days. But it’s so hard.
DarleneStenslie, When we arrive at this part of my husbands journey, His doctor recommended at product sold on Amazon to help when they won’t brush. It’s called Zolly pops and they also use this in a children’s disability center.
I am so sorry you are going through this. My husband isn't to the point yet but, I have heard some people say they had similiar issues you are having and they ended up hiring a bath aide which their loved one allowed to give them a shower and help with other hygiene tasks. Your husband may be eligible for hospice which can include a bath aide at no cost to you. Doctors orders are required to qualify for hospice so it may be worth talking with him/her about this. My prayers and heart go out to all of us that are walking down this journey.
