Members offered practical strategies for transitioning an older adult into wearing pull-ups, with the most successful approaches being to simply switch them out during regular dressing routines, use neutral terminology like calling them "underwear" rather than diapers, or layer them inside regular underwear so they are less noticeable. Several members shared personal experiences managing incontinence with their loved ones, including using VA benefits for cost savings, adding extra absorbent pads for heavy leakage, and navigating the emotional challenges when someone resists or feels their body is betraying them. A recurring theme was meeting resistance with patience, creativity, and gentle persuasion while preserving dignity, with one member even convincing her husband that tear-away sides were a cool new invention in underwear.

How about doubling up. By that I mean take a pull-up and put it inside what ever he wears now it would be like a lining. Maybe he wouldn’t notice because he would see his regular underwear not the pull-up. Good luck hugs to you.

I think terminology helps. I just call his pull-ups underwear so he doesn't feel diminished in any way and he thinks it's just normal underwear. When I had to tear the seams to get them off one day to avoid a big mess, I told him it's a cool new invention in underwear and he was impressed. Now he questions me when I don't tear the seams to take them off. LOL I never know what reaction I'm going to get but the switch to pull-ups went pretty well I think in part because I acted like it was just regular underwear. But one never knows when that might change. Good luck and hugs.

Oh. On a side note. If you are a veteran, consider getting the pull-ups through the VA. I have found that to be a great cost-savings and they have his size which is very hard to find in a store.

When I put George in them I just switched them out. I have to help him dress anyway so I just put them on him and to my surprise he didn't complain about them. He fights me now, but that's nothing to do with the pull up. It's all dressing .

As one with Alzheimer’s, I have a plan to use pull-ups from the first ‘poop’ event - short of a case of gastroenteritis.
Up until then, “the boss” and I hope I flush with success.👃
