My Mother Gets Extremely Mad At Us When She Thinks That We Are Keeping "her" Dog From Her. She Has Not Had A Pet In Years.

She tries to take my sister's dog and yells, cries, slams things, etc. sometimes when she can't take the dog home. It is happening more and more. We have tried the distraction technique but it doesn't always work (especially if she is angry). We have given her a stuffed dog but she rarely carries it. My dad has finally started the process to get in-home help, but he is exhausted. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Paulette,
It seems to me your Mom is living in that period of time when she had a dog and it must have been a happy time. I would keep the dog out of her sight because she truly believes the dog is hers and will never comprehend that it is not. That is a part of the decease. 😊🌹

Everyone says to take care of yourself. We’ll how do you go about doing that? I can never relax, I am always so tense, I try to relax my shoulders and it lasts for maybe a minute and then I’m tense again. I just feel like I am losing myself and for the first time I’m really worried. I don’t sleep well, and I have such a short fuse, I don’t even know who I am anymore. His Alzheimer’s started about 4 years ago and I would say he is in stage 6 or 7. He just started to be incontinent a few weeks ago. He doesn’t seem to understand that you have to keep the depends on, or if he takes them off, I have to search the house looking for it. Sometime he will pull the padding out! Have you ever seen what’s in side the padding when it is wet? It’s not pretty, and hard to clean it up.

Im sorry im just ranting, but I think im losing it and I feel so bad when I am grouchy with him.. thanks for letting me vent!šŸ™

I Bless you. When ANGER strikes there is nothing that's gonna stop it! He's doing the right thing. Get a caregiver or Hospice.
You can only do so much. And You have to be healthy because if your not then you can't give. Take care of yourself. It's not being selfish.šŸ˜‡šŸ™
