Kay, I’ll explain my solution and you can decide if any part is useful to you. I was concerned that if I died of a sudden heart attack, days might go by while my wife (Stage 7 ALZ) received no care. So, each morning around 7AM, I send a text message to a close friend who lives in Florida. If he doesn’t hear from me within an hour of the appointed time, he tries to call me. If he can’t get me on the phone, he calls my sister-in-law who lives in town and who has access to enter our home. If he can’t reach my sister-in-law, he calls the local police department and asks them to do a “wellness check.”

At 8PM, I repeat the same process with my daughter who lives in California. The objective is to ensure that my wife is not left uncared for for an extended period. So far nothing has happened to me.

Hello KayS2, you are not alone. We live in CA and everyone else lives out of state. I have contracted with in home caregiver and put a lockbox on the front door. The caregiver comes 3 times a week (4 days next month) for my wife. I am battling stage 4 prostate cancer, so I worry like you. That is why I have someone come in. Should I pass away, my wife cannot do anything. The caregiver will find me the next day. Morbid. But, having the in home caregiver is a safety net. Best I can do.
