Yes, we're in a seriously bad situation. I am so tired every night, can do nothing to prepare for next day, and yet I know that I will have to wake up at least twice during the night and lead person to toilet and change the underpants if necessary, then clean up and try to go back to sleep. besides being diagnosed with Alzheimers, my husband (82 yrs old), was exhibiting behaviour that was rather bizarre. I called his neuro, and she said get him to the ER and have him tested for a UTI. I did, and sure enough he had a urinary tract infection! It seems that a UTI can affect behaviour in dementia patients! His personal hygiene has gone down the tubes, and being incontinent, that urine sits in his diaper nad probably caused the UTI. He gets very angry and hostile if I remind him to change his diaper!
