I would take her to be evaluated for a UTI.

Cranberry juice and more fluids can help maintain urinary tract health once an infection is cured. UTIs present very differently after 65 yoa I’ve been told. This may also be a side effect of a medicine she is taking so you can ask her physician or pharmacist about her prescriptions and supplements she may be taking.

There is an apparatus for females to use overnight (one brand name is Purewick). My mom used one while in the hospital a few years ago. They are now available for home use and I think they are genius.

I hope you both find a resolution.

Yes, we're in a seriously bad situation. I am so tired every night, can do nothing to prepare for next day, and yet I know that I will have to wake up at least twice during the night and lead person to toilet and change the underpants if necessary, then clean up and try to go back to sleep. I keep hoping this will change for the better but I can't imagine what that would be. The behavior control meds do help with attitude. Have you told your neurologist about this abusive behavior? We use one pill for day and another for night, it is a great help.

Get her to a doctor (urologist?) because she may have a medical problem resulting in frequent urination.

besides being diagnosed with Alzheimers, my husband (82 yrs old), was exhibiting behaviour that was rather bizarre. I called his neuro, and she said get him to the ER and have him tested for a UTI. I did, and sure enough he had a urinary tract infection! It seems that a UTI can affect behaviour in dementia patients! His personal hygiene has gone down the tubes, and being incontinent, that urine sits in his diaper nad probably caused the UTI. He gets very angry and hostile if I remind him to change his diaper! He won't let me help wash him in the shower either, and unfortunately he does not do a very good job of keeping himself clean. It's become a nightmare to deal with this issue. One minute he is calling me sweetheart and honey, and all it takes is for me to remind him to do something, and I'm a F------ Bitch! we've been married 61 years, and he's never been like this to me. I have to constanly remind myself that he can't help it, and it's the disease thats talking to me that way. It's a heartless disease.
