How Do You Go About Getting Your Loved One Tested For Dementia Or Alz Without Hurting Their Feelings?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

I know that it might be helpful to know what stage they are in etc., but my husband is aware enough that I think it would be very hurtful for him to hear that he is needing to be tested for this disease. Who does the testing? Am I better off just letting things be and dealing with the day to day situations as they come, rather than KNOWING officially what I already can see happening?

Without an official medical diagnosis, first by family dr and then after a neurology assessment, it would be very difficult to get any dementia services from VA or community agencies/government resources.

My husband started not understanding the Tv remote the phone and put things in the wrong places. Ice cream is in the refrigerator not the freezer. It’s just part of the many things the do.

Some people can get interventions to delay the disease. That is a personal decision about being tested.

The earlier he gets help the better... Take your concerns to your Dr and ask for thier help. Then sit down with Hubby and talk to them. It's as difficult for them, it's a fearful disease... Ask what his wishes are and would be would help Alleviate
his fears.
