Walking means shuffling feet, memory loss while doing something, not sleeping well, but the worst is the mood swings! It’s like he’s bi polar. Some days are fine, others horrible! I know he could become violent, his frustration is so bad when things go wrong for him. I just walk away, and try to continue as normal. These moods can last up to three days, and then all is okay again. Am I alone with this experience? Help please.

Members deeply understood the emotional toll of unpredictable mood swings in a spouse with dementia, validating that dramatic shifts lasting days are a normal part of the disease, though no less painful to witness. Several members strongly recommended consulting a neurologist about mood-stabilizing medications like Trazodone, which many credited with reducing combative behavior and creating calmer days, while also suggesting practical strategies like maintaining strict daily routines, playing soothing music, and scheduling respite care or adult day programs to protect caregiver wellbeing. A recurring theme was the tension between honoring a loved one's desire for independence and accepting help, balanced with gentle but firm reminders that caregivers must prioritize their own health, lean on prayer and community support, and give themselves grace through the exhausting unpredictability of each day.

I'm so sorry . There are " mood leveling drugs". I'd investigate with his doctor before your husband becomes violent. 3 days is a long time for a mood to last.

We have entered a new " easier " stage. We changed medicines a couple of times. Right now we are able to attend church and he isn't as frustrated! I'll take it!!! Thank you Lord
