mine does this also. looking into ideas for finger foods. basics like cheese, cucumbers, fruit, crackers etc. but need to find some warm foods. pizza, egg rolls, fries, hot dogs, burgers etc, but need healthier ideas.

Sadly dementia is a life journey backwards to infancy....abilities disappear in reverse of how they were achieved in childhood ie most toddlers eat with fingers. Finger foods work best for folks with advancing dementia as does a grazing diet....frequent small meals may be preferable to more standard 3 meals daily.

Yes sometimes my mom uses her hand, on those days I notice she might be shaking a little more then usual, or might need help picking up the food with her fork, that day.
I quickly remind her and she’ll go back to the fork if only for awhile. 🌹

My mom will use her fingers when she can't get her fork to work. Yesterday she could not stab a cherry tomatoe so she picked it up.
