My husband has been in an Assisted Living Facility for almost a year. I would like to move him to a better facility because the one he is in has reduced the staff in the evening to only two caregivers. For 28 people and only 2 caregivers, it's a nightmare. These two caregivers are responsible for dinner, serving the food, clearing the tables, doing the meds, getting them ready for bed, etc. I don't feel he and others are getting quality care. MOVE HIM NOW! I work in an memory care/ assisted living I am a med tech and most places are 8 patients to 1 employee report them to state, ASAP
I am sorry for all you are going through. It is difficult because you want only the best for him. Bedsores are difficult to heal. Hopefully the current facility he is at as a good wound care nurse involved. I know that as difficult as it is to take care of my husband, I dread the day I won't be able to it anymore and have to place him. Take care and give the new place a chance.
Thank you. I'm still working on this issue. Taking him tomorrow to daycare at a new place to see how he does before moving him.
What stage is your husband in? I actually moved my mother from a large assisted living facility to a home with 6 residents. It was an adjustment at first but I feel she is getting much more attention and care. Some residence homes only have 1 caregiver to 6 residents. The one I put her in has 1 caregiver, floaters and we were fortunate that the med tech also lived on the premises. It was a difficult transition but with time she adjusted and is very happy now. As a nurse this is scary.Look for other options soon as you can,talk to hospice see what they can offer,other nursing facilities.Your loved one is high riskfor bed sores,pneumonia and decreased mental status,not to mention poor diet.No way is he getting adequate care.
