Mom has just been prescribed Trazadone for both sleep and paranoia. At what time in the evening is the best time to give. Also, how drowsy does this med make them? Will she now be able to sleep through the night? Do I have to worry about her having accidents in bed, although she hasn‘t had those problems yet. She also broke her ankle last week and had to put a cast on because she wouldn’t leave on her orthopedic boot. I worry so much about her getting up in the middle of the night and falling… read more
Mom unusually woke this morning with extreme tiredness and confusion. As a reminder from an earlier post, mom broke her ankle and was placed in a cast this week, she is using a walker. She got up to use the restroom and I could hearing her mumbling about not having any toilet paper when there was actually plenty there. I went to check on her and she had fallen asleep with her head resting on her knees. It took strength to get her back in an upright position. She had very little… read more
Just thought I'd let you all know that my husband was getting very depressed as his alzheimers is worsening. He was even saying he wanted to die and he's had enough of this world. His appetite had hit ground zero and he's very underweight anyway so that was a big concern. The doc got him on to citalopram 20mg once a day. Brilliant!!!! after a couple of weeks a huge change.... hes happy every day now and that makes the alzheimers much more managable. I totally recommend it. He's getting… read more

My partners Mum has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's but calls her most nights in the early hours and is confused as to what time it is or what day it is - is there any support for this during the night ?
My Mom doesn't stay asleep at night. She is awake more than she is asleep....she seems content to stay in bed, but I never know when she may decide to get up and start wandering. Then she wants to sleep the next day, won't eat, doesn't want to dress and is very hateful!! I try not to let her sleep the next day, except for short naps here and there....but that makes her harder to get along with!! Is anyone else having this same problem? Any ideas on what I might be… read more
Uncertain how to deal with this new phase in this uncharted journey! Mom sleeping ALL day, consequently not eating breakfast-lunch-dinner. She gets nasty and abusive I when awoken......
Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
We're already giving my mom Melatonin 10 mg, Prazosin 4 mg for blood pressure (has a known sedative effect), and Mirtazapine 15 mg.
She has even start to pack up her clothes and waiting for me to take her home
My husband has early onset alzheimers and takes 2 citalopram a day to help depression. His dementia is quite bad now and he has no ability to reason or hold information and for these reasons can't take any advice. My problem is that he is still so physically able that he is starting to do things that are dangerous. I have to have eyes in the back of my head and even then I'm often not quick enough. We are back and forth to the doctor with cut fingers because he is… read more
