@A myALZteam Member: As both @A myALZteam Member and @A myALZteam Member have said above, there’s inevitably a point where an Alzheimer’s or Dementia patient will need someone physically handing them their pills and watching them take them.

There’s a point where the patient simply cannot take medication on their own, or be allowed to live alone, for their own safety.

You’re dealing with a terminal disease, and these things are all part of the normal progression.

What’s important is to recognize that it IS a terminal disease, and a missed dose here or there isn’t going to change the outcome. You DON’T need to make yourself crazy over one missed dose.

That said, you absolutely DO NEED to plan for the point in time when she must have full-time care, 24/7. That day is coming. Who’s going to provide her care?

If you don’t already have a game plan for that time, and if you don’t know what on earth you’re going to do when that time comes, please meet with an Elder Care attorney and/or a social worker from your local Department of Social Services or Adult Services, and get the ducks in a row. Do this soon.

Shower time alarm.

Hope this helps.

Hi @A myALZteam Member! I have to hand the meds to my mom, just that dose (she takes 5 pills in the morning and 3 at night) and watch her swallow them. I hand her the water too. I leave nothing to chance with her because I have found pills everywhere and she is actually trying to take her meds! I set up 3 pill boxes, so I do three weeks worth at a time for simplicity. Sometimes we get off schedule, so I just try to leave at least 6 hours between her 2 sets of pills.

I set alarm on my LO’s phone & we also got her a clock for dementia and set timers on it as well. It worked for a while. We eventually had to be there to give them to her.
