I have locked up meds and chemicals. Simplified her closet and dressers. Locked up all my guns and ammo. Put sharp knife sets up in pantry top shelves outs sight. Removed loose runner rugs. Installed grab bars and corner padding in walk in shower. Today she went in bathroom and covered her entire face with foundation ( yes it’s caked and dried and she said it was fine….) so I’m gonna have to simplify her vanity and prep area and leave only hairspray , soap and personal care items. Trackers are a must for sure. I have cameras everywhere inside and out with motion alarms to my phone. Trackers in her purse, shoes and a bracelet she wears. I actually installed door buzzers that alarm when the doors are opened that I can turn off and on from my phone or Alexa . So many things to consider for preventive care

First, it sounds like an incredible amount of thoughtful work has already gone into making the home safer — that foundation story is both relatable and a good reminder that even everyday items need a second look! 😄

Here are some additional ideas to consider: Wandering & Doors
- Install door alarms on all exterior doors
- Add a Ring doorbell or camera to monitor movement
- Consider moving door locks to unusual heights (very top or bottom of door)
- Place visual "stop" signs or plain wallpaper wraps on exit doors to disguise them

Bathroom
- Keep only essential, safe items on the vanity (as already planned!)
- Install motion-activated night lights near the toilet to prevent nighttime falls
- Add grab bars near the toilet and a raised toilet seat
- Keep wet wipes handy for accidents General Safety
- Use safety gates or brightly colored netting near stairs
- Add night lights throughout the home to reduce nighttime confusion
- Consider a medical ID bracelet with emergency contact info
- Look into GPS tracking devices in case of wandering

Daily Living
- Use blue or yellow melamine plates with raised edges to make meals easier
- Replace standard cutlery with foam-handled utensils for better grip
- Install a voice-activated device (like Google Home) for reminders and alarms
- Use a kettle that pours without lifting to reduce burn risks

Always check with her healthcare provider about additional safety recommendations specific to her stage of Alzheimer's.

Blink cameras inside and out. Very easy to set up and use and motion detection works great
