My Dad (and therefore, my Mom) suffered from Sundowning in the very late afternoon hours. After quite awhile, where Mom couldn't even go to dinner because Dad was sundowning, my Mom would give him a few Melatonin pills, telling him they were his vitamins. It really took the edge off for a few hours and sometimes he even went to bed nice and early, and she was able to breathe for a few hours. Best wishes
@A myALZteam Member: The really short answer is that as the day goes on, the brain gets progressively more tired, and a tired brain doesn't work as well.
I like the information provided by the Cleveland Clinic. so here's a link:

We having a witching time that starts about 4pm, lasts until hubs falls asleep. I try to leave him alone unless he needs help. Maintain calm is all I can do to avoid irritability and agitation.
Thank you so much!!
Sandy, The Sundowners for my husband began in the later stages of his disease. It occurred like clockwork starting late afternoon and through most of the night. It was such a strange phenomenon to witness. I did come to dread it because his behaviors changed from being relatively calm to not only seeing things and people that were not there but him becoming angry and lashing out at me.
