I Am 74 Years Old, And Was Diagnosed With Alzheimer's Disease In 2023. Both Of My Older Sisters Died From It. How Many Years Do I Have Left?
My only treatment has been taking the medication Memantine. It's hard to know if it is helping or not. Are the newer treatments more effective, and what about the side effects?
My enrichment is going to Chair Yoga twice a week at the 55+ community where I live with my husband John, taking a walk with a friend after class at least once a week, coloring in Coloring Books for Grownups, reading novels (but now I will try to write down themes, historical facts, and important characters, so if John asks me about a book I just read, I can answer his questions! Otherwise, it just: "It was good and I enjoyed reading it")

It is hard to define lifespan, with this disease! I was diagnosed 5+ yrs ago, but still functioning at a good level. Check my Stiry for details of what I am doing, to ward off decline.

I saw a Neurologist recently, and he recommended adding another medication. Now I take both memantine and Aricept, and it seems to be helping!
How Much Better Do Newer Medications Perform, Compared To Memantine?
