Do You Or Your Loved One Follow A Specific Diet To Help With Alzheimer’s?
My mom at the end of her journey enjoyed watermelon and diced peaches. We tried baby food, smoothies, yogurt. Watermelon seemed to be her favorite.
Whatever works.. do that!!
@A myALZteam Member, I agree with you. My husband has few enough pleasures in life these days and so very little autonomy. If he wants to enjoy a slice of cake or buttery mashed potatoes, who am I to say no?
I think when one reaches the late stage of dementia, one should be allowed to eat whatever one wants.
FYI.....to be totally transparent....I fed my Mother Baby food. It worked wonderfully. Nutritionally, flavor, texture so she wouldn't choke. I also bought Vitamin Water on Amazon - Lemon and Orange were best for her taste buds. Plus? She got critical nutrition. For some reason they can only taste very tart, very sweet flavors (look into that....) so the baby food fruits worked great as did the Zero Vitamin Water (Monk Fruit not xylitol or erythritol) . Don't take this the wrong way? I probably kept her alive way past when she should have been because of the nutrition (my mom was a skeleton at the end) BUT the point is? You can appease your loved one and provide nutrition they can and will accept. XOXOX Peace to you all XOXOXO
Thank you for sharing. I like your kind words, "It's always an adventure!" I've also found that playing music while eating is a big plus, Spotify / Top 70's music, he also hums or sings along.
