Do You Or Your Loved One Follow A Specific Diet To Help With Alzheimer’s?
I think when one reaches the late stage of dementia, one should be allowed to eat whatever one wants.
You're making an excellent point, @A myALZteam Member. At the end of the day, Alzheimer's is a terminal disease that's causing the brain to atrophy, and there will certainly come a point where it causes one organ or another to fail, or to cease functioning. Many stop eating altogether; so in the meantime, for those loved ones who are still able to eat, it's not such a terrible thing to let them have some pleasure, with some food they actually enjoy (within reason). Happiness counts.
My husband is beginning the late stage. At this point, I don't think it matters what he eats; as long as he has something. He loves his sweets. Does his blood pressure, cholesterol, and sugar levels really matter? I want him to ENJOY what life he has left.
I cut my husband's food up. He loves to eat
I agree with everyone who just wants to keep them happy.
My husband forgets he ate. He wants more meals. Snacks like crackers, chex mix, sliced apples etc.
My husband has always eaten meat,
Vegetables, fruit and a well balanced diet so we never changed it. As the disease has progressed he doesn’t like the taste of water but will drink lemonade. He hasn’t had hot drinks for several years. Now he needs food chopped up but he still likes to eat and usually cleans his plate.
