How To Get Your Loved One To Change Clothes In The Bathroom For A Shower
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

I can now get my dad to take showers when he needs too.
Not sure how he stinks so much. My question is how do you get your loved one to change clothes in the bathroom instead of his bedroom and then from his bedroom to the bathroom naked? Thank God, my husband hasn't seen that. It's bad enough for me! Sorry Dad!

Before he gets in the shower have him or you pick out the close he's going to wear.put the picked out fit in a chair in the bathroom and set the clean close on the chair it's what works for my wife and I always put the under garments on top and so on she has a routine in the way she gets dressed under garments first then pants then shirt then she'll sit in the chair and put her socks on and even though I put her shoes in there next to the chair she picks them up and carries them to the bedroom and sits on the side of the bed and puts them on.then brushes her hair then teeth.Im telling you this comes from a women who can't remember how to sign or print her name or remember her son's name Travis and Austin Lotz to telling time and has the darnedest time reading but will get into the shower every 3rd day.if it's just you and your husband are the only ones in the house I personally would let him continue to do what he does and not make a big deal out of it
If it makes you uncomfortable go into the living room when you hear the shower cut off give him about15 minutes and go check on him

We have a small bathroom. He does pick out his clothes he's putting on. Maybe try a short robe or see if he can change in the bathroom, then shower and put on his clean clothes after his shower. I have went in the other room before.

Glad he's willing to take a shower as long as I start it for him. Sometimes, he turns it off, and sometimes, I have to turn it off.

Thank you Both!

@A myALZteam Member. If he smells a lot, he may not be doing a good job in the shower. I peeked in the shower when my husband didn’t seem to get clean. He wasn’t washing his hair and wasn’t doing good peri care. He wouldn’t let me help him, so we went to sponge baths. Sometime after a shower if he’s sitting in a chair, give him a kiss on his head while inhaling and telling him you love him. That will let you know if he’s getting his head clean. It may be wet, but may not have had a good scrub.

Could a terry cloth bathrobe be the answer? A lot of falls happen in the bathroom, so if your bathroom is small, changing in his bedroom might actually be safer. Maybe he could do what he's doing, but with a modification: wear a bathrobe when going back and forth.
