Does Anyone Have Someone In A Memory Care Environment?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

Have 99 year old Aunt that has been in this environment about 6 weeks. It is very expensive and the staff does not do their jobs. I want to speak up about the things I see (visit 5 times a week) like no water on her side table where she sits, no clean underclothes on, metmucil in a lump in the glass. Has anyone else experience a Memory Care environment that does their job?

My MIL was in the Bristol memory care unit and they were great. The place was clean, the food good and the staff was great! The Bristol is expensive, we paid for it by selling my MIL’s house. I hope you can find what you need and can afford.

Am concerned that they would take it out on my Aunt if I reported to the Ombudsman they would take it out on her. Feel I should wait until she is no longer a resident there.

She is in an expensive facility and the best here but I feel it is just “window dressing”. The aides are nice just not doing their jobs.

@A myALZteam Member: EVERY state has a long-term care Ombudsman office that can be contacted for help. Your profile shows that you're in Wisconsin, so here's the link: https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/aging/ltcombud.htm
I hope they are able to help you, and that things improve.

You need to look for another care home
The care she is receiving is not acceptable.
There are good care homes out there and sometimes they are hard to locate
Keep looking your loved ones deserves it!
