I have recently made the decision to start the process as I know its time...mostly for me as I am becoming sick....but also for D's safety. He really diesnt know his own house of 55 years and I don't think he recognizes me only as a caregiver...we have a wonderful regular caregiver but only for 12xhr a week.

Transition is always hard for us humans, so patience is the key for everyone. I would say, start talking about “moving” and see what type of reaction you get. Then start to look at the homes you may have access to, and visit with him. If he seems to not notice that he’s in a different “home” then it may be easier than you think. If he realizes what is going on, find the narrative that works for him. Maybe he’ll understand that YOU are not well, or maybe just calling it temporary will resonate better. Whatever home he moves to, the staff has been there before, so try to trust in what they tell you, yet remember that it’s YOUR loved one moving.
