He continually wants to go to Home improvement stores to buy wood, cement, and tools, etc ! I set him up with a bank card with limits on it and he blew a fit because it was not high enough for his liking. 🤑OMG how am I to budget for household costs and his Dr appts? Any suggestions?

Hello Karen, my husband was diagnosed in 2016 but showed signs 6 years previous. The thing I have found is every case is different. My husband was not easy to get along with, but now is the sweetest person ever. Is it always easy ? No. The transition from mean to nice wasn't easy...something like you are going through now. He fought me on everything, giving up driving, planting the garden, clearing up outside etc as the disease progressed, he couldn't do things right, and most times I had to redo them...example, in garden planting tomatoes upside down and all over the place it was hard to watch. He coukd no longer follow directions and was frustrated and blamed it all on me. I know he couldn't help it. Then there came a kind of acceptance and he realized he couldn't do things. However, every case is different. I am one of the lucky ones where we started with an angry person who transitioned to a kind person. All I can tell you is this transition your husband is going through will not last. It will be hard to observe him losing himself but you kind off get used to it after a while seeing him losing more skills etc

I a in the process now of finding a memory care place for him. It was a hard decision. I am hoping I can get him on the place that is more of a home setting. Dementia has taken its tole on me both mentally and physically and now I have to take care of myself. My 2 children live in different provinces and we have no other family, so I don't have much choice. The nice thing is this home is 5 minutes from my house and I can visit as often as I want.
You take care of yourself. Hopefully as your husband's disease progresses, he will become more subdued.

My husband has now taken an interest in our house. First time. Getting rid of rugs - we drove all over today to get rugs for the outdoor patios. Finally find some and the store didn’t deliver so we had these 2 big rugs stuffed into the car. It was comical but the obsessions he is getting can wear you down. He remembers no one and has so much trouble finding words. It gets much worse as the day winds down. This disease is so cruel and no one deserves it. I’m sure others find that the anger really flashes more as bedtime approaches. I walk on eggshells all the time. My poor darling. 💝

My husband still thinks he can fix everything like he used to. He can’t, I hate hurting his feelings..

Can you then return his purchases without his noticing? If not, maybe give him one room to work on? I had this particular problem myself and it is definitely difficult!
