Searching For Activities
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

Hi All,
I'm wondering if any of you have found activities to keep your patient busy while sitting? My husband uses his cellphone to keep him occupied and it has created some horrible consequences. He's never been a "game player" so cards, jigsaw puzzles and that sort of thing is out. He's always been a work outside type of guy and I can't seem to find safe things for him to do. Does anyone have this issue and have you found any answers? Thanks for any ideas......

My husband likes the fidget spinners and the pop it toys. He will sit for 30 minutes or more popping the pop it toy or spinning the fidget.

Can he use a leaf blower?
My husband loves to do that daily!

Thanks so much. My husband has his puppy to keep him company which is sorta ironic because he didn't want me to get a dog but I pressed and pushed. Turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to him, lol.

Try music videos on YouTube. Ads interrupt between videos, but your husband might not mind.

As My Ed unknowingly moved into Alzheimer's, he kept presenting me with lots of costume jewelry! I soon discovered that he had ordered these things through Publishers's Clearinghouse, and owed money to several east coast jewelers! I had a serious discussion with him and immediately took charge of his accounts and eventually unentangled the mess, preventing him from contacting PC ever again. He still was present enough to understand. Sometimes, it takes courage to prevent an Alzheimer's patient from doing something they enjoy -- but yet, causes harm. Now, he "watches" football , local news, and crime shows on TV, feeds the pets, and makes me coffee. He still enjoys listening to music, but has not been interested in the Senior Activity Centers, where seniors go for the day to visit, eat, play cards or dominos, read newspapers and bulletin boards. etc. He also told the nurses that he is not interested in having clergy visit (providing another man with whom to converse). Perhaps other A-patients would enjoy some of these options.
