You can go straight to Atria, have lunch to see how the food is and walk around to see how happy the clients are then if you like it, you can sit down with the office to see what they have to offer. Do not pay the quoted price, make an offer for what you can afford and see what happens. If someone has talked to you about Atria and they work there, they would usually get a fee when you sign up. It would be around $1000.00 so if your doing this on your own request at least $1000.00 off the move in fees. They will usually work with you and what you can afford. Try to get a contract for at least two years so they cannot raise the fees on you. Also have them put on the contract how much the rent would increase after the contract is over. That way you'll know what the mark up in rent it will be. Hopefully you Mom will love it there and won't want to move. Atria is a wonderful company and the residents are usually very nice. There are a few places that might be a good place to start looking - the Alzheimer’s Association might be able to point you in the direction of a Senior Advocacy organization in your area and connect you with local sources of information. The other plce to look is your Area Agency on Aging - if you go to aging.ca.gov , you can look for your county or the county you are looking in and connect with the county-level agency that offers senior services for that area.
