Has Anyone Purchased A Seated Leg Exerciser With Automatic Simulated Walking Functions?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

We just returned from the orthopedist to get a cortisone shot for my Mom’s knee and I had a conversation with the doctor about physical therapy for my Mom. She and our neurologist agree with me that my Mom is at the point that exercises and PT visits are probably only going to lead to frustration. But she suggested getting a seated leg exerciser that automatically moves her feet at a slow speed. The doctor said it would help with circulation and strength, even if she only uses it for 15 minutes… read more

I just bought one designed and sold by two physical therapists. I will let you know if it works. And, by the way, my first thought was duct taping a pair of shoes to the pedals!😁

OK you two....behave yourselves....lol ! PS...just used clear duct tape to fix my laundry basket and put gray tape outside to repair crack in shop vac pipe.

I was looking at these recently. At the time, I just didn’t think Vilma would be a willing participant. Then of course within a few weeks she suffered from a blood clot in her leg. It’s too bad they don’t have it set up to strap their feet in place.
Looking back, I wish I would have given it a shot.

@A myALZteam Member Yes! I did end up getting one of these for my Mom and it is working well! We use it for about 15 minutes in the morning and about 15 minutes at some point in the afternoon. It moves pretty slowly and at times my Mom even falls asleep while it is running - nobody is ever going to break out in a sweat using this kind of machine. I think it is doing her good and she hasn’t shown any resistance to using it. I also have noticed that she is moving her legs around more at other points of the day, so perhaps it is giving her more energy - my Mom’s ability to walk has deteriorated much faster than the progress of her cognitive and ADL abilities and although I am not expecting to revive her ability to walk, I just want to make sure her circulation is good and her joints stay flexible. Hope this info helps!❤️

Did anyone try this -- the machine, not the duct tape? My mom is mostly inactive and I've been wondering if one of these machines would be smart for her to use. She likes to do jigsaw puzzles and I've been thinking I might be able to place the machine under the puzzle table and have her use it while she "puzzles".
