Is anyone taking low dose Lithium and if so , was it difficult to find a Dr who would prescribe it? It’s used to halt the progression of Alzheimers.

Please check a credible medical site online...as a retired mental health nurse I don't think this lithium info is true and taking it could be harmful because of side effects.

Lithium is a mood stabilizer. Yes, it is used for bipolar disorder. I had a consultation w a Nurse Practioner today recommended a different mood stabilizer Neurontin.

Primary Care are reluctant to prescribe psychotic medications as are many neurologists. Psychiatrists are more experienced w these meds but not necessarily w Alzheimer’s.

Finding physicians and or nurse Practitioners that work specifically w geriatric Alzheimer’s patients is not easy.

Memory Care Skilled Nursing Facilities/units or Hospitals that has a geriatric psych unit. Not easy and narrow field.

Sending good wishes.

My wife is taking 5mg of Lithium Orotate nightly for 3 weeks now and has resolved virtually all of her prior agitation. She was previously taking 25 mg of Qiutapiene and was tapered off for a month prior to the LiO.
