I was told to sprinkle a little sugar on the food. My dad now eats more than has in the past. I also give them a boost drink. Both my parents love the taste.
My husband is same. He holds his own for a couple months then declines lots of same issues but seem to get worse
Since starting Aricept (donezipil) several years ago, then (nemantidine), my husband wants to eat constantly, not huge meals, but on time and snacking. He gained no weight on just Ariceot—Dr said it could be a diet pill. But now he’s eating way more sugars and fats than when he was normal and chose healthy foods. Has gained a belly since he sits most of the time. Only so much nagging I can do to get him from orderiing Coke, Pepsi, fried food as he frequently prefers eating out to my food. It’s ok but I don’t want his arteries any more clogged. I think it’s mostly side effect of those meds. If he ever stops eating I’ll suspect the end.
I know caregivers feel responsible if patient doesn’t eat, but don’t take a guilt trip.
Do not put her in a nursing home with a feeding tube please. Miserable end of life. Let her decline naturally, provide small favorite foods. My mil ate finger peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and 4 Oz glass of fav juice, Then hospice In daughters home. . I was a Hospice RN, it’s a better way.
Tank you everyone
