Are Mini-blackouts A Symptom Of Alzheimer's?
Dad told me today that he has this weird thing -- he'll be reading a book or writing some notes, and then "everything is gone." It took a bit of conversation to understand what he meant. As best as I could decipher, it's the same affect of closing his eyes for a few seconds. I asked if he thinks he just fell asleep briefly, but he says it feels different than nodding off. I think it’s blacking out. My husband had this happen while driving his truck. Somehow, during the blackout, he must have got stuck somewhere! Short story, is that the rubber in both back tires on his truck was completely wore down to a bunch of bits of rubber and wire!! He does not remember any of it, and can’t believe he damaged his truck! He was awake while driving, but blacked out at the same time ! He was very lucky not to have been hurt, or hurt anyone else!! The hospital took his drivers license after that!
Perhaps take him to his dr...sometimes there is seizure activity with Alz depending on which area of the brain is being destroyed and this sounds like petit mal seizures which is like pushing the pause button briefly...it could be dangerous if he was near traffic.
