How Do You Find The Communication Of GP,s In Residential Care
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

My dad is in residential care. He is no longer under his family GP who he had been with for many years. He is now under the care home GP who I’m struggling to get answers from regarding my dads care. I’ve left numerous messages with his secretary regarding an new health problem my dad has got since being in the care home (October 2019). Im finding The communication terrible and not getting any answers and basically feel like I’m banging my head on a brick wall.

Talk to the nursing director. Ask to see her medication records and tell you what are on the doctors notes from his last visit. If you have POA for health care, you have a right to see the records or at least have them explained (often it is hard to read handwritten notes and they use a lot of medical terms and abbreviations..The doctor should be seeing her at least monthly and more so if there are new problems. If you don't get a good response from the nursing director, go to the social worker. They are there to be your resource and advocate.
