I give my husband his meals, when doing my chores.
Also have an exercise bike I put him on.
Other times I just hand him a broom.
Now he knows that my chores are his queue to eat, exercise or sweep.
I never had to talk to him about it. I just conditioned him.

I give mom a dust rag to dust. She walks around for a minute or two then forgets that she wanted to help.

My husband waters the plants with the watering cans. Can't go wrong with that one.

My husband was the same way all I had to do was give him the vacuum cleaner and he would vacuum for hours if I let him another was a long handle swifter to dust the blinds and a broom to sweep the front patio off of course I could always see him when he was outside and the patio had a gate on it so if he opened it the dogs would let me know.

Try to let him do what you can tolerate. I take out the rack for the silverware when emptying the dishwasher and put it on the counter above the silverware drawer and have him do everything else. He can't always put them in the right spot but I can deal with that - it was trying the to find the rest of the stuff that used to drive me nuts. In reality - he does not try to do much anymore so...for you - "this too shall pass." I try to do things when he is napping. I am kind of lucky - when I am at work my staff for him do a lot of the routine chores.
