My dad who has always had guns, decided to buy one for my mom who has dementia. She carries it in her purse. Since Arizona is an open carry state I'm not sure if there's anything that can be done. As of Jan 1 of this year she was still carrying it! My siblings have also expressed their concerns about it… read more
If a person has a mental health diagnosis usually the right to carry is revoked. I’m sure if her Dr knew It, her License to carry would be revoked. Unless the Dr felt that she isn’t a danger to others, same with drivers license. Most States require a Dr to sign a consent to operate form yearly for anyone with an Alzheimer’s or dementia diagnosis.
You have a right to be concerned. I would definitely get it away from your mom. I also live in Arizona where you can carry firearms. I have a friend who let's her husband who has beginning stages of Alzheimer's drive!! I worry every time he drives!
Think you should talk to local police about this....even with open carry there are likely guidelines about stable mental health....might also go online and check Arizona gun laws.
Can you take the bullets out of the gun? My hisbands dr told me to lock all his guns up in one place and all the bullets some other place so he can’t get them.
I suggest calling the police regarding the law and your Neurolist regarding safety. I know I would not let my LO carry any lethal weapon but that's just me.
