We all want to go to heaven but no one wants to die! My dad had a stroke resulting in full left side paralysis, he amazingly has learnt to walk again and has also had a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s since 2012. Dad is convinced his disabilities are improving each year, while friends and family felt he should be MADE to realise he won’t. As his full time carer I don’t see why, if he is happy thinking he is getting better who has the right to take that happiness away from him?
Yes, we all feel old and thus shows his mental well-being.. focus on doing things that make you happy; going out for an ice cream, visit an animal sanctuary or plan what to plant in the garden. Be happy x
We’re all gonna die sometime, Ruby. Just not yet a while. Trying to explain to someone who can’t understand just doesn’t work. It’s one of the biggest adjustments we all make as caregivers. The sad truth is that lack of understanding comes early and it’s impact on both loved one and caregiver is profound. It hits us while we are still trying to get our heads round the changes in the person we married / who successfully raised us. We learn, through painful episodes like the one you describe, to carry their worries and burdens because sharing with them just causes upset. Best wishes. S
Alzheimers demantia can cause obsessions like that. My husband was obsessed with going biking with my girlfriends and I. I told him, men are not allowed, its our time! He wouldn't let it go and I argued with him. It was the wrong thing to do . I should have let it go1 Accept and move on.
In the early part of this journey , Don was obsessed about his things ( tools , old money ) etc.So I had him make a list of who should get what if he should pass away. Then we went to our lawyer and got everything in place. He gave the lawyer his list and it worked.I have never heard him speak of it since. During this past year or so , he would occasionally say I am dying.I would acknowledge his fear by saying yes , I know we are all going to die, we just don't know when. God will call us home when he is ready for us. If I go first , I will wait for you on the other side and we will be together again.O K . And that would calm him down.I think they just need reassuring that it is O K to die and that they will see us again .
thank you SusieQ. We went and got all the legal things taken care of so there is nothing to worry about. But he still goes on and on. Its ok though
