Donepezil was prescribed for my husband who is in early stage AD. We started with 5 mg. and after 6 months increased it to 10mg. He took it at bedtime and never had an adverse reaction. With the increase to 10mg. he experienced nightmares and diarrhea. The doc said to stop all and start over with 5 for a month and take it in the morning. Now, it is time to increase it again but I'm not sure if that is a good idea. Anyone else have this problem with 10mg ?

This.made him agitated, restless and hallucinate he also had problems sleeping .We were advises by doctor to reduce to 5mg and remain at this dose permanently . This was 6 months ago and seems to be ok. Hope that helps

My mum struggled with bad dreams, we swapped to morning and kept at 10mg and she’s fine.

Often, the side effects subside after a few weeks.

My wife took to it very well, but not everyone does. She has always taken it mornings. In the first few weeks at 10mg she said her head felt “ full”. No problems since. All best, S

Hello all who answered on this thread. My husband has been taking 10mg for 3 weeks now with no side effects. I talked to his doctor about the alternative medication and we decided that if there were no problems, donepezil was the first choice. He is also being considered for an experimental drug program through is doctor's offce at The University of Chicago Medical Center. I am fortunate to have my husband's medical team affiliated with U of C and their AD study.
