How Will My Dad Cope At A Day Centre If He Has Nothing In Common With The Others - He Is From Sicily And 90yrs Old...

So we are thinking of sending my Italian Dad to a day centre for a few hours, maybe just once a week to start off, as my Mum is his main carer and 89yrs old herself
We are worried he will kick off as he is from Sicily, so he has nothing in common with other people there.. The songs, any games etc will not be familiar and in general he just wants to sit in his chair at home. He can get very angry, shout and swear (badly)
My mum is exhausted. He calls her names and demands a lot from her. She… read more

My mom goes to adult daycare twice per week (if my Dad can get her to go). Once she is there, he is told that she is the life of the party. Most people can barely understand anything that she is trying to communicate, but she dances and "sings" all day. Mom has made a "best friend" at day care - a Sicilian woman who does not speak English. Some how they've learned to communicate with each other and both seem very happy. The trick is to get her to go in the first place. At home, she gets frustrated with my dad or anyone who "tells her what to do". Day care is a respite for her where she has fun. I would encourage you to try it.

I just found out that here in Virginia if a doctor writes a sort of prescription for home care and walkers, etc that Medicare will pay for it. I was even given a phone number for an organization that supposedly takes Medicare and provides day care in your home! I have called once but no one called me back or either tried and I missed the call. I intend to call this week so will let you know!

Does Insurance help pay for the cost of attending a day care center like this? How would I start finding out does insurance help pay for the cost of attending a daycare center like this? How would i start finding out what could help pay for this service that we might have like Medicare or VA benefits or health insurance?
