My Mum endlessly picks at her skin until it bleeds then won’t let the wounds heal. We have had to get antibiotics to stop infections on several occasions. I think it is anxiously but it’s impossible to stop. I dress the wounds but mum just takes the dressings off.

When I ask why she says it’s a bad habit but it’s much more than that, It’s like a compulsion.

I wondered if anyone had a similar experience? Any advice welcome.

Try buying her one of those small spinner toys. My husband has the double one and plays with it. He had s single and couldn’t play with it because it was hard to hold. The double is easy and it gives him something to do.

Same OCD behavior here: finally found that the liquid bandaid helped more than anything for hubs: all healed except 1 ... You just never know!
