Hi Martha, If you are computer/google savvy just look up incontinence products on line. There are tons of products you can buy to suit your particular needs. They come in light needs to very heavy needs. You can order on line or you can google- 'medical suppy store near me'. Attends are good pull ups, for daily use. As stated above, I put a pad in his attends every morning & if he has an accident, all I have to do is change out the pad. I don't need to take off the pull up until the end of the day. At night, I use Tranqulity pull ups with another pad inside.
Because they urinate more at night, at nighttime you cannot use a pad with a waterproof liner in it because the liner will stop the urine from getting onto the rest of the pad which is what you want it to do during the night. Again, Tranqulity makes a product just for this. No liner. The pad just has a sticky backing to hold it in place.
For over the sheet, I use washable pads. They come in a 70" length & have material on the top & a waterproof fabric underneath. I tuck it under between the mattress & box spring. I have 2 of them. One to wash while the other is on the bed. They are washable/dryer safe & water proof, so this keeps the bed sheet dry. I use disposable pads (from Walgreens) to put under the sheet to keep the mattress dry. I reuse this disposable pad every week when I change the bed for about a month because 70" pad keeps the sheets dry. Hope this helps. It works for me pretty well. He is dry in the mornings about 3/4 of the time, which is not perfect, but at least I don't need to wash clothes every day. FYI I put the Tranqulity pad in crossways because he is male. For a female I would put it in up & down. I know you wanted specifics, but every person is different & if you go into a medical supply store the people there are very helpful. Hope this helps.

Sadly my wife lost all control over all functions. It was a slow process but deliberate. Accept the same caring needs as an infant. The social skills were the first to go but in time basic living skills were lost . This ranges from bathing, dressing, toilet functions, etc. Think of an infant and the care required.
REMEMBER Absolute need for care is required DUE TO THE DISEASE!

You could see an urologist to rule out a physical problem or urinary tract infection. But its most probably part of the disease. The first thing to go was my husbands ability to shave, shower etc.but everyone is different. Paper pull ups (like Attends) & a urinary program works well for us. Pull ups instead of diapers allow him to retain his dignity. I remind my husband to go about every 2-3 hrs. depending on how much liquid he drinks . I put a pad in the pull ups so that way I only need to change the pad if he has an accident or if he gets contrary & refuses to go when I ask him to. Sometimes he just wants make his own decision of when to go, which he then promptly forgets to do, so rather than argue with him he just goes in the pad & the pull ups stay dry. For some reason he never balks at me changing the wet pad. Also the pull ups are expensive so putting a pad inside them saves us money. Plus using a pad & changing it regularly keeps him drier & he has not had a problem with rash or smelling bad. Hopes this helps!

My Mum is almost totally incontinent now and she seems to pass much more urine at night than during the day. I found the assistants in our local Ableworld store really helpful, they gave me samples to try so I managed to find a pad which keeps Mum dry all night. The incontinence products supplied by the NHS didnt work for us. I also use a pad on top of the sheet and a waterproof matress protectpr. Occassionally Mum pulls her pj's and pad down during the night. I can only assume she feels uncomfortable. This arrangement has cut down on laundry for me.

The idea of the pad seems very practical. I will start using for my husband.
This will save me some money. He has started going through 4 plus pull ups a day. Thanks for sharing
