I have been giving Will 10 mg Melatonin for the past couple of weeks and it has worked wonderfully. He still gets up at least once a night to go to bathroom (that is good) and sleeps pretty well the rest of the night. Doc says, "if it works, use it because we both need the rest."

I had tried everything. Meds, prescription and over the counter, weighted blankets, teas, essential oils. After a year I finally stumbled on a solution. Not sure how active your Grandma is but in our case walking outside with my mom and also doing senior yoga made a 100% difference. The fresh air and physical activity was the magic key.

Get a Respite worker at nite, so you can sleep.

I had a similar situation with my mum. It resulted in her falling during the night and she fractured her pelvis. We were very fortunate that she recovered completely, but the night wandering became a real issue, the fear of her falling again at night consumed us with worry. At one point we had someone in her room with her overnight. After a lot of research and trial and error we had a bed alarm mat installed on her bed to alert us if she sat up, then someone could assist her to the bathroom and put her safely back to bed. We also have cushioned flooring around her bed at night to cushion the impact of a fall to protect her. You have to be very selective with the floor mats because they can also be a tripping hazard. It was recommended that she didn't nap during the day so she would be tired at night. Sometimes a light snack will help them get back to sleep, they often get up because they are hungry or need to use the bathroom. Melatonin was recommended to calm her before bed, it is a natural sleep aid you can buy in the vitamin section of any drug store, but we decided not to give her any sleep aids as the risk of being groggy when she got up might induce a fall. But many people find it works really well for them. The night wandering went on for about a year getting up 5-7 x between midnight and 4 am, but she has been sleeping more peacefully these days, usually wakes only once or twice.
