Is Anyone Dealing With Trying To Learn How The Household Repairs, Etc Are Done Without Having To Call In A Professional?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

My husband used to be able to fix or figure out most of our usual household problems/repairs, but now although he really isn't a person with severe dementia as yet, he just does not remember how to do this anymore. We can't afford to hire someone every time something comes up, so I am the one who tries to figure out/fix or call someone if I can't. Of course sometimes a friend's husband can help or someone who does repairs who is retired and doesn't charge as much as a company would

A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

Medication
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

My mom, has took pills for years. Now, its getting to the point where she really don't know how to swallow them. She tries to chew them up, and if you give her water. She puts them in water. I'm having a really hard time with this. She don't like taking them, but i know she needs them. Any ideas?

I crush pills and open capsules and put them in about a tablespoon of pudding. Sometimes I top with whipped cream from a can. Walmart sells small cups of pudding in packs of 12. I get 3 servings… read more

My Dad Is My Mom’s Primary Caregiver And Lately Has Been Losing His Temper And Has Slapped Her! HELP
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

My mom is 81 with Alzheimer’s mid-late stage. She is barely 5’ weighs 105 lbs and lives at home with my dad as her caregiver. My dad has many health issues including a very bad heart. Over the past 6 months he has had less and less patience and loses his temper and calls her names and has admitted to striking her. I have moved next door to be here to help and hopefully avoid this exact situation and yet I can’t help enough because my dad prefers to do most things. I have talked to him repeatedly… read more

Do You Ever Doubt Your Loved Ones Diagnosis?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

When my husband is out of sorts, I think okay, this really is happening. But sometimes (a lot here lately), I wonder could this all be a mistake? Could something else have been going on 6months ago and now it’s over? My husband has been on Aricept for about 5 or 6 months and since July 2nd on the highest dosage. Does he really need it anymore? I am so confused and I don’t want him labeled with something he doesn’t have! Has anyone else ever went through this doubt or know of a misdiagnosis being… read more

My Mother Still Drives And I Don't Think She Should. How Do I Approach This Without Her Getting Angry?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

When she was first diagnosed with Alzheimer's she was already getting lost. The doctor did say that she should not be driving anymore and restricted her. She made my life hell and cried how she couldn't even go to the cemetery anymore to visit my dad's grave. I spoke with the doctor and he allowed her to drive there and in town. Fast forward four years.....She hasn't gotten lost lately (she really hasn't been driving too much lately, I have a tracker on her phone so I know when she leaves and I… read more

Non Stop Walking And Talking In Alzheimers Patient?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

Hi.
My mom has alzheimers. And is going through a phase where she can't sit down for more than a few minutes at a time . She just walks up and down all day. She also doesn't stop talking. Sadly she doesn't make sense when she talks and mixes everything up. But she talks non stop.
We were just wondering if this is a normal phase that alzheimers patients go through?
And if there are any tips to help her relax?
Thank you in advance

Medication For Depression
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

Just thought I'd let you all know that my husband was getting very depressed as his alzheimers is worsening. He was even saying he wanted to die and he's had enough of this world. His appetite had hit ground zero and he's very underweight anyway so that was a big concern. The doc got him on to citalopram 20mg once a day. Brilliant!!!! after a couple of weeks a huge change.... hes happy every day now and that makes the alzheimers much more managable. I totally recommend it. He's getting a… read more

Has Anyone Purchased A Seated Leg Exerciser With Automatic Simulated Walking Functions?
A myALZteam Member asked a question 💭

We just returned from the orthopedist to get a cortisone shot for my Mom’s knee and I had a conversation with the doctor about physical therapy for my Mom. She and our neurologist agree with me that my Mom is at the point that exercises and PT visits are probably only going to lead to frustration. But she suggested getting a seated leg exerciser that automatically moves her feet at a slow speed. The doctor said it would help with circulation and strength, even if she only uses it for 15 minutes… read more
