When she was first diagnosed with Alzheimer's she was already getting lost. The doctor did say that she should not be driving anymore and restricted her. She made my life hell and cried how she couldn't even go to the cemetery anymore to visit my dad's grave. I spoke with the doctor and he allowed her to drive there and in town. Fast forward four years.....She hasn't gotten lost lately (she really hasn't been driving too much lately, I have a tracker on her phone so I know when she leaves and I… read more
Thank you both Richard10 and Missy70. I do the majority of driving so I think he really knows but doesn't want to admit it and every so often is insistent on driving himself. I go with him but it's… read more
Many articles discuss short term memory loss but nothing about long term memory loss. My mother does not recall any memories. It's not only surprising but very difficult to converse with her about any subjects since her sort term memory is poor and she has no recall of memories from the past
I show her recent photo's of her great grand children which she loves to see and she seems happy and says how cute they are. We have tried looking at old photo's and she asks who these people are including… read more
Janice, me too. My mom still remembers me but two days when I was there a month ago (we live out of state) she didn't realize who I was. Broke my heart.

Yesterday my husbands doctors office called and told me his doctor wanted me to call my husbands insurance company and request in home psychiatric care. Apparently I have to call myself and initiate the request. Does anyone have experience with psychiatric care visits and did you find them useful?
I have never heard of this, but it's probably what my wife needs!
Costco has a hydration product to add to water, juices etc. Gives additional hydration.
as a fairly new caregiver, I am reading a great deal about ALZ of course. I cant find a clear explanation of what criteria are used to determine the different stages, and what constitutes passing from one stage to the next. I read about late stage 2, etc., but dont know what that references. Any clarification or resources would be appreciated. And hugs to all of you! What a challenging heartbreaking road. thank you.
My mother has Dementia and my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's last summer. Is there a way to find out if I have early stage Dementia/Alzheimer's?

I don't think we qualify for Medicaid. Not enough for so and so but too much for Medicaid.
My husbands family who only sees him about 3 or 4 times a year, can’t tell there is anything wrong him. Sometimes I think they doubt his diagnosis and what I tell them. He is on medication, still takes care of all his personal needs, drives in our very small town, and does most everything he used to do. He can carry on a conversation without most people noticing anything unusual. Yet at home with our immediate family, we see small things daily. He looses his phone, wallet, sunglasses all the… read more
Thank you Nothgiel, you are so right. However, our son and daughter both realize their dad’s problems so I have their support!
I have been the primary caregiver for my 86 yr old father now for three yrs after my mother passed away. I have had a provider coming during the day while I am working but now I am needing assistance at night. This is draining me financially and I know after a few months I no longer will have the funds without taking a loan or something. Has anyone found any government assistance program that helps with paying for in home care? We have tried a nursing home and only lasted 4 days due to his… read more
