My Mom doesn't stay asleep at night. She is awake more than she is asleep....she seems content to stay in bed, but I never know when she may decide to get up and start wandering. Then she wants to sleep the next day, won't eat, doesn't want to dress and is very hateful!! I try not to let her sleep the next day, except for short naps here and there....but that makes her harder to get along with!! Is anyone else having this same problem? Any ideas on what I might be able to do? Her doctor won't… read more

On one hand, I'm relieved...the day-to-day stresses of caring for a 200lb toddler and working a FT job are over. I tried my best and did my best (mostly) to keep him home...but it was becoming increasingly difficult. I toggle back and forth between, "I'm okay" and "I'm SO sad". I'm glad to be able to turn my full attention back to my job and my health. Taking care of so many things I had to put on hold for the past few years, it's overwhelming. I'm decluttering, throwing away, donating and… read more

Hi everyone:
My mother (89, with moderate dementia) was not doing well on Xanax for sundowning and related anxiety, The doctor thought it might be contributing to some of her symptoms. He prescribed 12.5 mg of Seroquel (Quetiapine Fumarate) to be taken once in the evening and stopping the Xanax. Looking at the Medication Insert, I see that a serious side effect is "the risk of death in the elderly with dementia" and "risk of suicidal thoughts," and "not indicated for elderly patients with… read more

The Dr has sent a letter to DMV stating that she is not mentally or physically able to drive, & she just got a letter stating her license will be suspended at the end of the month. My mom hasn't had any issues driving, never forgets where she is parked or going, she lives alone & is capable of taking care of herself. My question, has anyone had this experience & how do you tell them that can't drive any longer?
MY husbands neurologist wrote to DMV and they sent the letter. However he still blamed me. He said that I told the Dr to do it. Needless to say Hubby never would go back to that DR.
Hi all, just wondering how long other people have found from when they first noticed symptoms of loosing things and memory loss to when their loved one becomes incontinent and unable to do their own personal cares etc
My husband has shown signs of altzheimers for 10 years now and getting progressively worse over the last 3 and seems to have taken quite a dive in the last year. Also he was formally diagnosed a year or so ago. Doc says mid stage early onset (he's 62 now). He is very lost… read more
