This can be a real problem. We were just discussing this today, in my in-person Support Group. In our area (Long Island, NY) most assisted living and memory care facilities won't take less than a one-month stay because they are required to do a full-blown admission, with all the regulatory paperwork, regardless of the length of stay.

One Facility said the resident could stay for less than a month, but would have to pay for a one-month stay. If a Caregiver has a medical emergency, I guess that's better than nothing, even if it's not financially ideal.

The woman who runs our Group is a Social Worker and she thinks that some of the smaller facilities, with fewer beds, might be more accommodating. Most in our Group would like to have one-week Respite options. She's going to turn this into a project, because a list of viable options would be helpful to people in multiple Support Groups.

@A myALZteam Member makes a good point about still needing someone who can take him, and who would have medical and contact information.

Just in case your loved one is medically complicated: I keep a "To Go Book" for my medically-complicated son, which I have taken with me when E.R. visits have been needed. It's a ring binder that includes copies of his insurance cards, a medical timeline with copies of important medical documents, etc. When unexpected events arise and adrenaline is going, it's impossible to remember all the details, so it's good to have an organized reference to grab and go.

That's a great question. Maybe you could visit several memory care or assisted living places and ask them if they have the capacity to help on this basis and what they would need from you. You'll still need someone to take him and who can keep any medical and contact information they would need. Just a thought.
