Members shared mixed experiences comparing Rexulti and Seroquel for managing agitation, aggression, and anxiety in loved ones with Alzheimer's and other conditions, with many reporting that Rexulti worked better and caused fewer side effects like stumbling or tremors, though Seroquel remained a more affordable fallback. The overwhelming challenge discussed was Rexulti's prohibitive cost of over $1,500 per month, with members expressing anger and frustration at insurance denials, especially for Medicare recipients, and sharing strategies like obtaining doctor samples, using manufacturer savings cards for those with private insurance, or exploring Medicaid coverage. A recurring theme was the cruel irony of an effective medication being financially out of reach for most families already stretched thin by caregiving, leaving many to choose between unaffordable relief or returning to less effective alternatives.

I am adding to my comment about Rexulti. I have written to the manufacturer asking why they make such a good medication unattainable for most patients because of price. We need to question their pricing as our loved ones and we, their caregivers, are being denied a medication that can alleviate symptoms and help us to enjoy our time with our loved ones. Karen

My wife has been on rexulti for 5 weeks. This is her second week on the full dose. Her hands we shaking badly with seroquel They still shake but very little. Her agitation has lessened but not disappeared. I think the question is does the results of the rexulti justify the cost. So far I have been using samples given to me by the doctor. The retail price is over $1500. a month. I figure it will cost me between $375. and $400. a month. I am going to try it for 3 or 4 months and see how it works. Then I will have to decide about the cost.

Rexulti was much more successful than Seroquel, for my late husband, and he didn't experience side effects on it. Seroquel didn't seem to help with his agitation at all. It just caused him to stumble and fall all over the place. It's a miracle he didn't break any bones, while on it. He sure did get bruised up badly though, numerous times. Nothing like that, while on Rexulti.

Only way we can do it for my son is with the manufacturer’s savers card available since I have insurance through work. There could be a foundation that covers the cost. That is how I get hub’s biologic since he is on Medicare.

@A myALZteam Member That's such a shame about Rexulti's price tag making it out of reach. Almost better to not even know about it. Makes me wonder, too, how the drug's manufacturer manages to sell enough of it, to turn a profit, if only super wealthy people can afford it.
