I noticed that my husband no longer knew how to get to familiar places where he had always driven. He also started following cars too closely, and when I reminded him to slow down, he said he had plenty of room to stop. I just started taking him anywhere he needed to go, And when he asked me if he was ever going to drive again, I told him no. He was a wonderful driver, and I wanted him to stop before something bad happened.

This was my first clue when I noticed that he took longer than the norm to run to the market for a couple of items. When I asked him what took so long, maybe a long wait to check out, he said no, he returned 2/2 wrong items on my short list and got lost coming home. The next day, I was in the car when he ran a red light. We had a discussion about safety for everyone. He handed me the keys with no argument. He seemed relieved not to have to drive again. This all happened back in 2019. Safety comes before pride.
