My husband was diagnosed in 2012 with mild cognitive disorder. I have posted many times during this journey and have always found help and support. He has been at home all this time under my care with various caregivers helping over the past 3 years as he needed more and more help.
Now we are on a new journey. I have severe stenosis in my back as well as RA. Dick developed CoVid at Christmas time. It took a lot out of him! Then a huge pressure sore showed up on his heel area. This kept… read more
What a wonderful story to share. I am so glad that he adjusted so well to the facility and now you are getting the care you need.
@A myALZteam Member - Thanks again. I'm adding you to my Team. You can check out my story, but I have two loved ones that I worry about. Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately) I'm a planner by nature and was a Risk Manager for a chain of Assisted Living Facilities, so thinking ahead and trying to anticipate things to come is pretty ingrained. The ducks are pretty much in a row. At this time, my son is in a facility and my hubby is at home, and I hope things will stay more-or-less the way they are, for a long time.
@A myALZteam Member -- Regarding the possibility of placement for your hubby, someday in the future: I don't know the TX Medicaid system at all, but it would be a good idea to learn as much as you can about it, well in advance of needing it. I would recommend that you have a consultation with an Elder Lawyer (or two, or three) and take notes about possible options. Consultations are generally free and you can learn a lot.
How wonderful.. we're in our 10th year, prayers for you & us when that time comes.. Sleep well, know you need it.
I’m happy for you snd your husband.
@ CER I have our first Care Team meeting today. I do have a couple of concerns already. I am afraid that he is not getting enough to drink. I have written notes and explained that he does not just pick of a container of water and drink on his own. He needs to be encouraged and often have the drink offered to him while you stand right there.... Concern #2 is that they all think he is "cute" and he is the only male in memory care right now. However, I just wonder how many "snacks" he gets during the day as I always hear about the cookies, and how he loves ice cream. Chocolate has a negative effect on him so the other day, they made him a huge Sundae when the others were given Brownies for desert....lol. I know, what a problem to have, huh? I hesitate to say anything but I have always monitored his sugar as I know it is not good for the brain. He will eat whatever is put in front of him which is not the "norm" for most people there. Maybe it is time to just let it be....
